Community involvement
Reg James’ primary community involvement revolves around his support for Camp Sunshine, which provides programs that give children with cancer and other special needs the opportunity to enjoy normal activities like swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts and making friends. He has served as a volunteer camp counselor at Camp Sunshine’s summer programs for 33 years.
Regarding his volunteer work at Camp Sunshine, Reg says –
The experience of serving as a camp counselor at Camp Sunshine is one of the most uplifting things I’ve ever done, and I consider it a privilege. Helping these kids laugh, have fun and experience new activities lets them forget – for a while – the incredible challenges they have to face every day to survive. It puts everything into perspective for me and keeps me coming back. In fact, my whole family has gotten involved over the years in some way with the camp.
An active champion for Camp Sunshine, Reg supports camp with his time and money and promotes the camp whenever and wherever he can by recruiting volunteers and encouraging various types of support.
Reg is an active Senior Member of the United States Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol Squadron GA-447 where he volunteers his time and expertise in emergency services, and his love of flying, to provide services and support whenever and wherever the need arises.
Additionally, Reg serves as Vice Chairman of the State’s Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (EMSAC) and is active on a variety of subcommittees and workgroups.
